Child's Pose with Lat Stretch
Child's pose with both hands walked round to one side, which lengthens the lat and the side of the trunk on the opposite side. Held one side at a time, unlike the plain child's pose it follows.
Also called: Child's Pose Lat Stretch, Lat Stretch in Child Pose, Lat Stretch in Childs Pose, Side Child's Pose · Equipment: stretching · Pattern: isolation
How to do it
Step by step
- Kneel and sit back on your heels, then reach both arms forward along the floor into a child's pose.
- Keeping your hips where they are, walk both hands round to one side until you feel the stretch down the opposite side of your back.
- Keep the hips settled towards the heels — letting them drift takes the stretch out of the lat.
- Look up through the armpit that has moved towards the middle to intensify the stretch.
- Breathe normally and hold, then walk the hands back to the centre and repeat on the other side.
